Lil Smokey takes its cue from the basement clubs of the ’50s and ’60s. Shape the body of your drums, hit the tape hard or soft, then find a space between a characterful slap and a little Motown-inspired plate.
Start with an acoustic drum bus or a breakbeat. Try a snare on its own. The next move is yours.
